About placino

placino is a data clean room for regulated enterprises. We let multiple parties run federated SQL and ML across each other's data — without moving the underlying data. Each party's data stays in their environment; only privacy-preserving query results cross the boundary, gated by differential privacy, k-anonymity thresholds, and per-query policy enforcement. The platform deploys where customers' data already sits — AWS, Azure, GCP, on-prem, air-gapped. Kubernetes-native. Terraform-managed. Infrastructure-as-code from day one. We are 11–50 people, headquartered in Dubai (IFZA Business Park, Dubai Silicon Oasis), serving regulated enterprises across finance, health, telco, and AdTech.

The role

You will own the deployment topology that customers' own SREs need to trust. Federated query nodes run in each party's VPC; placino's platform code is what every one of those clusters runs. When a query crosses three banks at once, the reliability of that path is your domain. This is a senior IC role. Small team, high autonomy, real ownership.

What you will work on

  • Maintain and evolve the Kubernetes deployment topology for federated query nodes — multi-cluster, multi-region, multi-tenant.
  • Build and harden Terraform modules supporting AWS, Azure, GCP, on-prem, and air-gapped targets. Customers expect parity across all five.
  • Lead the SRE practice: SLOs, error budgets, incident response, postmortems. The audit trail per query is the customer's compliance evidence — uptime is non-negotiable.
  • Implement observability across customer deployments — Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry — without exfiltrating any tenant data.
  • Co-own the security posture: image hardening, supply-chain integrity (SBOM, Sigstore), mTLS everywhere, KMS / envelope encryption for at-rest and in-transit data.
  • Build deployment automation that customers can run themselves in air-gapped environments — including offline mirrors, signed artifacts, deterministic builds.

You are a fit if

  • 5+ years hands-on with production Kubernetes at multi-cluster scale.
  • Deep Terraform (or OpenTofu) — module design, state management, multi-account / multi-cloud topologies.
  • Production experience across at least 2 of: AWS, Azure, GCP.
  • Linux and networking fundamentals are second nature — iptables / nftables, eBPF, CNI plugins, service-mesh internals.
  • Have shipped to production in regulated environments (finance, health, gov) and understand the difference between "compliant on paper" and "evidence on demand".
  • Comfortable with cryptographic primitives in operations — KMS, envelope encryption, mTLS rotation, key escrow.

Bonus

  • Air-gapped deployment experience (defense, government, regulated finance).
  • Confidential computing exposure — Intel SGX, AMD SEV, AWS Nitro Enclaves.
  • Background in privacy tech, data infrastructure, or security tooling.
  • OpenTofu, Pulumi, or Crossplane familiarity beyond Terraform alone.
  • Open-source contributions in the K8s, observability, or SRE ecosystem.
